Things Learned at DrupalCamp Atlanta

I ventured out of the bunker this weekend to attend DrupalCamp Atlanta 2011. Besides getting some sun and fresh air I also learned a few things:
The Good Stuff
- I REALLY need to get out of the office more frequently.
- There are more than just a few really smart and committed people in the Drupal community. It's extremely stimulating to be surrounded by people whose knowledge, understanding and skills are greater than your own. Very motivational.
- It's amazing to witness the dynamic that takes place when people come together, face-to-face, with a truly common purpose and a genuine need to help each other get better. I am very moved by the whole thing.
- It is impossible to be great at everything...and that's OK.
- It seems there are many of us who periodically find ourselves up at 3:00am working on an important project deadline.
- I must do a better job of estimating time requirements.

The Technical Stuff
- Drupal Commerce looks fantastic...can't wait to put it to work. If I had only know more about this a few months ago I could have saved myself a couple of headaches on recent projects. Products, sub-products, conditional attributes and a host of other slick additions make this a sure fire bet on my next e-commerce effort.
- HTML5 and CSS3 offers some great new tools, hopefully IE will finally play nice. When these two standards are everyday practice the web will most certainly be a better experience. I look forward to having a more direct path for providing certain features and having a more robust Internet.
- Omega theme is definitely worth a long look for upcoming projects. I love the distinction between reactive vs. fluid. I can still have my 960 grid but it responds favorably when less real estate is available...Nice!!!
- Drush plus aliases provides some great, time-saving features for managing remote instances of a site.
- I must do a better job of estimating time requirements.
Summary
I had a nice day out of the office, met some cool people and learned a few new things about Drupal and myself. I'd reckon that's a pretty good day. Thanks to everybody who presented, all the sponsors and to Mediacurrent for all their hard work.
